Surprise!
Random factoid: I don't really like lady bugs. They bite. I'm probably one of the special ones that has been attacked by lady bugs.
I like this picture, because it is a fun reminder that sometimes you take the picture and see one thing, and then when you get out of your camera you see another. This picture had a little photo bomber. I was stalking the lady bug, and so was another little creature. Do you see him there?

First Day of Summer
It is now the first day of Summer. It doesn't seem like we ever truly got a Spring, except for a few glorious days that showed up in June nonetheless of 70 degree days (scattered in between some sweltering 95 degree days) Instead, all Spring long, it did nothing but rain. I never knew I could hate rain as intensely as I did this year.
Thanks to the lack of a true Spring, my flowers bloomed late this year. It wasn't until mid-May until my Hyacinths bloomed.
I ran across a dreamy picture of some of my hyacinths... reminds me of the gorgeous 70 degree days we celebrated last week.

Abstracts in Light
At the end of 2010 I begun a little project of my own to explore photography in a new way. My goal was to gain appreciation for aspects of photography I had found myself having some trouble truly appreciating.
One of those was to find an appreciation for abstract photography using various light sources. The goal was to create the photograph within the camera instead of seeking out various abstract looking scenes or patterns and avoid using various post processing techniques.
I continued with the project on through the better half of this year. In fact the Abstracts in Light Study was not formally completed until the first(ish) week of May of this year as I chose to present them as a formal project. The entire collection consists of 17 images although I only presented around 6 formally, all of which I had printed on gorgeous metallic paper.
I feel quite successful in undertaking this as a project. I have a new found appreciation for abstract photography, my overall goal. I see why people are drawn to it. It was really fun to watch people wonder what exactly I used and how exactly I got the shapes that I got. Everybody just sort of interpreted everything in their own way, and as the person behind it, it was really fun to just listen to what they had to say about it. I think that is some of the beauty in abstract photography.

Blue Mystique
Not much surprise that I need to follow the pink orchid with a photo study of the Blue Mystique orchid.
Someday I want a room that is mostly black and white... and blue orchids to be the only color accent. Ahhh, the very thought makes me happy.
Just some trivia.... the Blue Mystique orchid is a Phalaenopsis orchid (and honestly the big fluffy white ones are my favorite, so elegant) in which regular white orchids are infused with a special medium turning them blue. A lot of them I've seen are much lighter or a bit streaky in color. My lovely husband brought home this beauty to me and I had to permanently capture it.
